YSI's customized V-Fins provide stable, lightweight platforms for deploying water sampling instruments from moving vessels. The standard dihedral wing and pod designs are commonly used for survey and scientific expeditions.
As the speed of the vessel increases, the negative lift of the V-Fin (towed by the vessel) helps offset cable drag, producing an effective system for monitoring at a given depth in the water column.

Towed Underwater Platforms
YSI's six standard V-Fins (Vehicles for Instrumentation) are stable, lightweight platforms used to easily deploy instruments from a moving vessel. Each V-Fin is durable and can be flown at a variety of depths in a water column to collect data.
Customizable V-Fin platforms can be configured with YSI water quality instruments, SonTek/YSI acoustic velocity profilers, transducers, and hydrophones for a wide range of sampling applications.
